Ukraine/Russia Crisis 2022

Updated: Mar 3, 2022

Rundown of events from Sunday:

**This information is all either from an official page or was confirmed by an official source. Full disclosure: There have been reports that pages have been cloned to spread false information. I’m doing my best to double check before posting anything**

According to the official social media pages for Ukraine — These major multinational companies have diverted or stopped investing in Russia:

The UN Security Council held a vote today to hold a special session of the General Assembly tomorrow.

The Russian Federation opposed. China, India and UAE abstained.

Explanation below of vote by Permanent Representative Vassily Nebenzia after the UNSC vote on a draft resolution on Ukraine, “Let me stress that we do not wage war on Ukraine and its people. We are carrying out a special military operation against nationalists to protect the people of Donbas, ensure denazification and demilitarization. Those tasks will soon be complete, and the people of Ukraine will again have an opportunity to shape their future, while living in peace and cooperation with all neighbors.” https://russiaun.ru/en/news/250222nu?fbclid=IwAR2sEj_Xz31XAwk0d0WOe3MIoqgXI-d0bDImqdIQlqPedD4yvxBSNl

The Representative of Russia to the United Nations says they need to focus on correcting the situation that lead to the current crisis. Vasily Nebenzya says, “It did not start when Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine. It started much earlier, when you spent 8 years pretending to not notice crimes of Ukrainian nationalists in Donbas. What poses a threat [to Ukraine] is nationalists who in fact hold Ukrainian people as hostages, use them as a human shield. There's numerous evidence proving that nationalists deploy heavy equipment & multiple rocket launchers in residential areas. It's a violation of IHL (international humanitarian law)… The population in Donbas was in need of support for a long time. The only country that basically provided this support was Russia.

The mayor of Kyiv says the reports of Kyiv being surrounded are false.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko says his Instagram page was cloned and Russian internet publications spread information about Kyiv being surrounded. He says that is not true and their intensified curfew will end tmw morning. **Clarification on this one— From the Associated Press: “The AP was not able to immediately verify the mayor’s report that Kyiv was surrounded, and his spokesperson later tweeted that the mayor had misspoken.”

Obviously language barriers are an issue when it comes to translations**

The first deputy minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reports that a rocket hit in the center of Chernihiv— which is a city in northern Ukraine.

First deputy, Emine Dzhepper says, “Most likely, it was an Iskander ballistic missile launched from the territory of Belarus.”

More help is on the way— USAID and the U.S. State Dept providing an additional $54M in humanitarian aid to Ukraine for critical health care, safe drinking water, protection for vulnerable children & more. USAID reports,“This includes food assistance to meet immediate needs of 125k people.”

Travel Alert issued by the U.S. State Department — Several flights are being canceled to and from Russia and numerous countries have closed airspace to Russian airlines. “U.S. citizens should consider departing Russia immediately via commercial options still available… The U.S. Embassy reminds U.S. citizens that the Department of State’s Travel Advisory level for Russia is at “Level 4: Do Not Travel.” Click here for the full text of the Travel Advisory for Russia.”

Ukraine military reported, “Fear, enemies! There will be no peace for you on our earth!”

From the deputy chair of the security council of the Russian Federation: Now, sanctions have been imposed against all Russia’s Security Council members. So I’m writing this almost in a panic. What a pity! What are we going to do now? However, for the sake of history, I’d like to note the following:

1. First things first. Naturally, these wonderful bans won’t change anything. Even the ignorant people of the US State Department know this. No change will be made to the decision on the military operation in Donbass. It will be carried out in full, till all the results that the Russian President has mentioned, are achieved. Neither more nor less. Just as it was, by the way, in a similar situation in 2008.

2. I think, all the smart people are clear about this: Sanctions are a myth, a figment, a figure of speech. As for me, I can’t care less for these widely advertised restrictions of rights abroad. I could put it more precisely but will hold back😂...

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba spoke about what is happening, calling it, “a real people’s war.” The foreign minister says, “We will not fall. We will not stop or get tired. We are determined to fight back fiercely as long as it is needed to defend our land and our people.

We are determined to fight back fiercely as long as it is needed to defend our land and our people. We are determined to defeat Russia the same way as we defeated the previous monster in Europe 80 years ago. And I am sure that we shall by prevail.

I want to underline that since the very beginning the territory of Belarus was used for the aggression. Right now, Ukrainian territory is being shelled not only from Russia, but also from the territory of Belarus.

We demand immediate steps to impose a full financial isolation of Russia from all civilized systems. Already taken actions are not enough. Peace needs more. It’s not us, Ukrainians, who need it. It’s the peace in Europe, the world order that needs more actions.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin visits the construction site of the National Space Agency on the premises of the Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Centre, in Moscow— The visit comes after Putin put his nuclear forces on high alert:

Ukraine: World’s largest cargo aircraft, An-225 Mriya destroyed by Russia— per Ukraine’s Foreign Minister @DmytroKuleba “‘Mriya’(Dream in Ukrainian) Russia may have destroyed our ‘Mriya’…they will never be able to destroy our dream of a strong, free & democratic European state.”

Moments before Ukraine announces a plan to talk with Russia at the Ukraine-Belarus border- President Vladimir Putin orders Russia’s nuclear deterrence forces to be placed on “high alert” — This is video translated by Al Jazeera:

Ukraine President Zelenskyy is creating a new military unit, the International Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine. He has invited foreigners multiple times to go to Ukraine and join the fight against Russia. More: cutt.ly/AP42QnG

The Ukrainian delegation agrees to meet with the Russian delegation at the Ukraine-Belarus border— according to Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense. The Russian ministry says, “The Russian delegation is in Gomel, Belarus, and is ready for talks with representatives from Kiev.”
